Beyond Vinegar: Manicardi’s Grasparossa Earns a Page in the Gazzetta di Modena

On Tuesday, 28 July, within the pages of the Italia Mondo section of the Gazzetta di Modena, the “Wine Guide” column dedicated significant space to our Estate.

For many, the name Manicardi is synonymous with balsamic vinegar, and for good reason — it is the family’s most renowned product, established in Italy and on the international market for years. However, it all began with the winery, which has a history spanning nearly half a century, and it is precisely this story that the newspaper chose to tell.

A Vineyard That Speaks of Family

It all started with Enzo Manicardi, who nearly 46 years ago chose to devote himself to the vineyard to create a rosé wine that his wife would enjoy. A project that the family continues today, led by his daughter Maria Livia. Enzo is credited with the decision, far from obvious at the time, to bet on Castelvetro di Modena, the homeland of Lambrusco Grasparossa. It was here that Enzo purchased the land in the 1980s, and in 1983 he harvested the first grapes.

Since then, the range has grown ever wider, meeting the needs of the market and the most discerning consumers. The Manicardi principle has always remained the same: no shortcuts, and great patience in the cellar. Grechetto Gentile and Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro grapes have always been cultivated.

Three labels are at the heart of the story, the wines in which the winery has invested the most recently in terms of technical care and identity.

Vigna Cà del Fiore, the cru that represents the pinnacle of our production: grapes grown on a dedicated hill with a particular south-facing exposure.

Fabula, dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Veva — the founder’s wife. A blend of Grechetto Gentile and Lambrusco Grasparossa; a delicate and pleasant bouquet.

The Vino della Casa, a playful Grasparossa DOC, designed for the most authentic conviviality: that of trattorias, wine taverns, and family lunches. A sparkling wine with just 11% ABV that naturally invites a second glass.

What pleased us in reading the article was seeing the work we have been doing for decades recognised. For an enterprise like ours, as deeply rooted in the Modena region as the balsamic vinegar that made us famous, finding space in a historic newspaper like the Gazzetta di Modena also means this: sharing with our daily readers a part of us they may not have known yet.

If you wish to read the full article, with all the details about our vineyard history and the wines featured in the newspaper, you can browse the print edition of 28 July or download the PDF of the excerpt directly from our website. Happy reading, and here’s to your next bottle of Grasparossa.
